Meet Me

Hi, I’m Maureen.

Most people come to me tired — overwhelmed, stuck, or pushing through on their own for longer than they should have had to. Sometimes they know exactly what’s wrong. Often they just know that something isn’t right.

What we do together is slow things down, make sense of what’s going on, and look at the options side by side. I want to understand your life from your perspective, because the better I understand you as a person, the better the care I can give you.

You will never leave one of my appointments feeling like a decision was made for you. My job is to listen, give you honest, high-quality advice, lay out the choices, and then make the decision with you.

Whoever you are and whatever you’re coming in for, what you’ll get from me is dignity, respect, and high-quality care. If that’s the kind of care you’re looking for, I’d be glad to meet you.

Conditions I Help With

I work with adults across a wide range of mental health concerns. People commonly come to me for:

  • Anxiety, stress, and burnout
  • Intrusive thoughts and obsessive worry
  • Depression and low motivation
  • Depression that hasn’t responded to previous treatment
  • ADHD and difficulty focusing
  • Bipolar disorder and mood changes
  • Trouble sleeping and the effect it has on mood
  • Substance use and the role it plays in mood and memory
  • Feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or not like yourself
  • Medication management as part of a whole-person plan
  • Supportive therapy alongside medication management

I welcome patients of every background, and I work regularly with LGBTQIA+ patients and with veterans.

Together we’ll look at the whole picture and build a plan that fits your life.

Why I Chose Psychiatry

When I was an undergraduate, a close friend of mine was going through serious mental health challenges, and she turned to me. I told her I thought she needed help, and that I would help her find it. What I learned in the process was how hard that is — and when she finally did get care, it wasn’t good care.

Watching someone I loved go through that, and feeling helpless alongside her, is what set my direction. I wanted the access to be better and the quality to be better. I considered several paths into healthcare and found psychiatric nursing, and it was the right fit.

I chose to work as a nurse before becoming a nurse practitioner, which turned out to be one of the most valuable decisions I made. I still think about my inpatient days all the time when I’m practicing.

My approach now starts with getting to know you. I’m genuinely interested in people — all kinds of jobs, backgrounds, beliefs, and lives — and respect is a large part of how I practice. The more someone trusts you, the more they’ll tell you, and the more they tell you, the more you can actually help.

I lean on motivational interviewing, on education, and on supportive listening. I find that explaining what’s happening is empowering: people come back to the next visit understanding their own condition, and the changes hold better when you arrived at them yourself.

And everything you tell me stays between us. That’s not a policy I follow, it’s something I take seriously and permanently.

Very insightful first visit. There is a lot to unpack with my ADHD. I like that Sarah gave me a different viewpoint on how to approach it, with holistic strategies like meditation and lifestyle changes in addition to medication. I think that is something often overlooked with ADHD treatment, the effect our habits can have. She gave me a lot to think about. I will definitely have questions on my next visit about what we talked about.

Very easy and intuitive for scheduling. I got an appointment within a few days and was seen. I like that Jack takes more time than many other places I have been to, because a lot of places do short 15 minute visits, whereas these are actually long enough to address everything I want to address. I covered almost everything I wanted in my initial visit, and what we could not cover we addressed in the next visit. I am very happy here and my medication is working well.

Appointments are fairly easy to get scheduled. If I need to make a change between appointments, Jack is good about getting back to me and giving me the link to reschedule, which is nice. Sometimes I have meetings come up and I am not always able to attend, but he is flexible. They send me the scheduling link after each appointment to make it easy. One thing I would recommend is sending reminders before the appointment, because reminders can go to my spam, but I did get the text message, so that works too.
